The Moonlight Library

Burning Man 2025

Intro

The Moonlight Library is where the Entity stores the thousands of stories she’s been collecting, appearing to us humans in book form.

These books, weathered yet resilient, embody the truths of their narrators and remind us that while our covers may appear different, our narratives are universal.

Contribute

The Moonlight Collective is seeking artists, builders, and collaborators for our build in Oakland, CA (and beyond). Contact us to give us your information and to learn more.

Layout

The romantic ruins of a library, built in the gothic revival style, only one corner still standing, eerie and windswept. The structure will be two stories, with an upper and lower level. Bookshelves filled with weathered books line the walls. Prominent columns and tall arches add to the air of mystery and grandeur, with tall ladders to help reach the upper level.

Interactivity

Visitors can see and hear the stories contained within the library's books, animated with a line drawing and projected against the paper-like screen. There will be a haunting ambient soundscape playing, with fragments of the stories mixed in. The structure will be lit dimly with simulated candles and torches that will flicker and interactively respond and animate as part of the soundscape.
